Hello – I am Heather Barker, your house portrait artist. I am a life long resident of Scarborough, Ontario
In 1986, when I graduated from architectural conservation in Edinburgh Scotland, I realized every building had a story to tell. Following that, I knew I could tell their story by drawing them.
In 1994, I applied to the Ontario College of Art and Design. My acceptance to that College was based on my drawings of heritage houses and churches. My curriculum at OCAD followed a very traditional course of study and in 1998 I Graduated with Honours. I became more interested in other forms of art including photography and that led me to study with Freeman Patterson, a well known, Canadian nature photographer.
In 2003, I realized that I could combine my love of buildings with my love of photography by photographing buildings and then drawing them. Over the last few years, I have been commissioned to draw over 50 house portraits in and around the Greater Toronto Area.
My experience has taught me that every house is special. Let me tell the story of your house.
